About Steve W. Griffin

Writer. Songwriter.
The life is the material.

At seventeen, I wrote something I have spent the rest of my life trying to prove: that for the most part, mankind does not disagree in philosophy, only in the interpretation of its application. We have always known what honesty, justice, and human dignity require. The failure is never in the knowing. It is in the doing.

"For the most part mankind does not disagree in philosophy but in the interpretation of its application."

That conviction became 540 proverb essays. Each one takes a single line and walks it all the way into real life, past the moment of recognition and into the territory where most of us stall. A parenting book came out of the same place: not expert observations, but field notes from someone who got it wrong more than he got it right.

Some of those essays became songs. I am not a singer, but I have spent time in studios as an executive producer. I know what a song needs and I know the moment when the lyric is the thing. Country, Americana, R&B, jazz, blues: whatever genre the lyric was always going to be. The voices are not mine. That is not the point.

I founded The Compass Institute for Enterprise Formation and Authentic Leadership. That work is its own world. This site is the personal work: the writing that is not a deliverable, the songs that are not a product, the reflections for parents who are in the middle of it. If something here finds you at the right moment, send it to someone it might find next.
